Cambridge (United Kingdom)
When you hear the name Cambridge, something familiar comes to mind. Is it the city in England that comes to mind or the Canadian one? Do you instantly imagine the famous University with impressive historical spires or a beautiful historical city?
When you travel to Cambridge, you’ll marvel at its medieval, awe-inspiring city full of stunning lush gardens, picture-perfect streets, and exquisite architecture.
A country town of Cambridgeshire on the River Cam used to be known as Grantabridge as a bridge over the river Granta, one of the sources of the River Cam.
The town has a typical English appearance, like many others. Roman at its inception, was then ruled by Danes, Anglo-Saxons, and Normans. England was suffering from plague and fires but Cambridge received a town charter, stood strong, and grew despite the fact. Who would guess that it didn't officially become a city until 1951?
Did you know that around 55% of residents make a journey by bike at least once per week, making the city the cycling capital of the UK?
It is worth mentioning famous alumni and valuable visitors of Cambridge amongst which are the Beckhams, William Shatner, Charles Darwin, Amanda Holden, Stephen Hawking, Sir Isaac Newton, and last but not least Rosalind Franklin.
