Jílové u Prahy (Czech Republic)
In the picturesque Posázaví region, approximately 20 kilometres from Prague, there is a literal goldmine of opportunities to escape the hectic hustle and bustle of the big city. This area has gained fame even at the European level thanks to the gold that was allegedly mined here already before our era, and among other things, brought the magnificent name of the royal gold mining town.
Mining continued intermittently until 1968, when it ceased due to unprofitability. However, this long era has left its legacy, which you can discover on the Jílovské doly nature trail or in the Regional Museum.
Since the town was declared a conservation area in 1992, there is no doubt that it is full of sights with attractive stories. Examples include the town hall complex with the preserved cells of the county prison or the Church of St. Vojtěch with its Gothic panelled altar, whose interior so enchanted Miloš Forman that he chose it for the filming of his movie Amadeus.
