Kežmarok (Slovakia)
Kežmarok is a district town located under the High Tatras in the Prešov Region. It is the historical center of the traditional Spiš region and the central city of the Carpathian Germans living in Slovakia and former Hungary. It is one of the oldest cities in Slovakia. The city rights of Kežmark were granted by the Hungarian king Belo IV. in 1269. Kežmarok became a free royal city in 1380. The historical core of the city has been a city monument reserve since June 11, 1950. In the city there is a wooden evangelical articular Church of the Holy Trinity, which has been included in the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List since July 7, 2008. Kežmarok is the starting point for trips to the Tatra National Park, Slovak Paradise National Park and Pieniny National Park.
