Šariš-Bardejov (Slovakia)
The town of Bardejov with its UNESCO monuments and attractive surroundings, as well as the surroundings of Svidník and Dukla, which were marked by both world wars, are frequent destinations for sightseeing tourism. The region of north-eastern Slovakia has much to offer - from history, culture, events, sports activities, cycling routes to relaxation and spa treatment in Bardejov Spa. There are 6 interconnected cycling routes in the vicinity of Bardejov, with a length of almost 10 km.
After skiing, or even instead of it, it is a good idea to swim and move around in the warm water. In the north-east of Slovakia, there is the Aquaruthenia Svidník water paradise with indoor pools and wellness facilities open all year round.
Bardejov Spa is one of the most popular and oldest Slovak spas. Guests have a choice of two wellness complexes. The larger Wellness Spa - pool and sauna world is in the Ozón Hotel and the smaller one (without swimming pool) is in the Alexander Congress Hotel. In the Wellness Spa complex it is possible to use the swimming pool and sauna world daily. The luxurious four-star Congress Hotel Alexander is the best choice for congresses, trainings, seminars, workshops, teambuilding, business meetings, as well as weddings and parties.
The town of Bardejov is rightly proud of its repeated first prizes in the competition for the Most Beautiful Town in Slovakia. Visitors can admire the Town Hall Square with its magnificent Gothic town houses, the Basilica Minor of St. Egidius, the former Town Hall - the first Renaissance building in Slovakia, which houses the exposition of the Šariš Museum. Among the jewels is the Jewish suburbium - the Old Synagogue in Bardejov. The Old Synagogue was declared a national cultural monument in 1970, the mikveh and bet hamidrash in 2000. In the same year, the historic core of Bardejov, together with the Jewish suburb, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
War history. Among the most visited places in the region is the Dukla Memorial. It commemorates the Carpatho-Dukla military operation in the autumn of 1944. It is very attractive for children that they can touch and even climb on the military equipment. The Military History Museum Piešt'any operates the Central Exposition of the Museum Department of the VHM in Svidník and the Observation Tower at Dukla (closed in winter). Directly in Svidník, the lookout tower with a shelter, which was put into operation above the former ski lift, has been attracting visitors since December 2021. A new lookout tower, shaped like a World War II rifle cartridge, was also added in December 2021 in the Death Valley, near the village of Kružlová in the Svidník district.
