Sounion (Greece)
In a maritime country like Greece, the god of the sea occupied a high position in the divine hierarchy.
The temple of Poseidon was constructed in 444–440 BC, over the ruins of a temple dating from the Archaic period. According to Greek Mythology,
Cape Sounio is the spot where Aegeus, King of Athens, believing that his only son Prince Theseus died trying to kill the Minotaur, because he forgot to change the black sails to white ones on his boat, leaped to his death over the cliff, thus giving his name to the Aegean Sea.
On a clear day, you may have views of 5 - 7 Aegean Sea islands
and surely the most wonderful sunset close to Athens.
