The territory of Tekov is nowadays divided into two regions: the Nitra and the Banská Bystrica region. The most important and largest town is Levice. The other towns are Nová Baňa, Žarnovica, Kremnica, Žiar nad Hronom and Želiezovce.

The TEKOV region as we know it today does not copy the borders of the former Tekov county, but occupies a much smaller area than the former Tekov county. It extends over most of the territory of the Levice district, a small part of it extends into the Nové Zámky district and its natural centre is the district town of Levice. The current TEKOV region has not been shaped by external political pressures and its borders are not artificially created for the needs of local government. The current TEKOV region has been shaped by historical conditions, business and interpersonal relations and, above all, by the natural cultural self-identity of the inhabitants living in a geographically coherent and relatively clearly delimited area around the town of Levice.

The TEKOV region lies on the northern border of the Pannonian Plain, more precisely on the outcrop of the Danube Plain and the Ipelian Upland, which flows smoothly into the south-western outcrops of the Štiavnické Hills. Geomorphologically, the TEKOV region is thus divided into two stages, the plain and the hills. The central part consists of the outcrops of the Danube Lowland with the Hron alluvium, bordered in the west by the Hronská hills. The district town of Levice, which is the centre of the TEKOV region, lies for the most part on the broad alluvial floodplain of the Hron, but the northern and eastern edge of Levice already lies on the slopes and gently rolling hills of the Ipeľská hills. The uplands of the TEKOV Region consist of the Ipelian Upland and the beginning of the Štiavnické Hills. In the TEKOV region, two climatic worlds literally meet in a small area.
