Trmice (Czech Republic)
Trmice is a town of contradictions and illustrates the possibilities of reclaiming areas affected by significant coal mining.
In the course of just a few decades, it has grown from a dreaded part of the region to a relatively attractive destination between the beautiful Lake Milada and the nearby town of Ústí nad Labem.
The small town with almost a thousand years of history has experienced times of glory and times of severe decline, especially during the socialist era when Trmice was to become an industrial zone and the town was to disappear completely.
Today Trmice offers several attractions, such as the Trmice Castle or the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary with its Baroque rectory, where the important bishop of the Roman Catholic Church Karel Otčenášek lived for many years.
The Trmice heating plant or the hidden pearl of the Ústí nad Labem Region - the Lake Milada recreation area, which was created by reclaiming a former coal mine, are also worthy of attention.
