Zeitz (Germany)
Welcome to the south of Saxony-Anhalt, in Zeitz on the White Elster River.
The first documented mention of Zeitz dates back to 967. In the Middle Ages, the city became the residence of the bishops of Naumburg-Zeitz and then, from 1652 to 1718 the seat of government of the dukes of Saxony-Zeitz. Moritzburg Castle served as the residence of Duke Moritz of Saxony-Zeitz. In the 19th century, Zeitz was transformed into a modern industrial city. The city became known worldwide for the baby carriages, pianos and chemical products manufactured here, as well as for the developments in mechanical engineering. Especially from these eras, there are many valuable old buildings and cultural monuments that characterize the cityscape.
